Background of the project
Long term ecological research (LTER) stations will be established in Mizoram to collect ecological information on
long-term changes in climate, vegetation dynamics including phenological observations, forest disturbance;
comparison of community, population, and plant responses to disturbance; organic matter accumulation,
decomposition and mineralization; element cycling, fine root dynamics and forest microbiology. Project aims to fill
the gap of knowledge about impact of climate change on forest vegetation and society. It will help in developing
climate resilient forest management plans and in solving the regional problem of forest degradation and its potential to
serve the society on sustained basis for longer time. Further, the data will be useful in ecological restoration of disturb
sites.
